Sonik ("we", "us") is an AI music-discovery app. This policy explains what we collect and why.

Information we collect

• Account: your email and chosen username. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier and, if you allow it, your email.
• Content you create: community posts, direct messages, song likes/dislikes, and any audio or video you upload.
• Approximate location: if you opt in, your city is used to show nearby community posts. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates.
• Usage & device data: in-app events (e.g. swipes, screens viewed) and basic diagnostics, used to improve the app.

How we use it

To create and secure your account, power personalised recommendations, run community features, moderate content, fix bugs, and understand product usage.

AI & automated decisions

Two parts of Sonik are automated. Recommendations: machine-learning models running on our own servers learn from your swipes (and the audio characteristics of songs) to rank what you see next; this data is used only inside Sonik. Moderation: posts and comments are automatically scored for harmful content by OpenAI's moderation service; content scored as harmful may be blocked or flagged, and repeated violations can lead to automatic warnings or suspension. You can contest any automated moderation decision by emailing soniklegalinquiries@gmail.com — a human reviews every appeal.

Advertising

The free tier shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, coarse ad-interaction data, and — only if you allow tracking in the iOS prompt — the advertising identifier (IDFA) to personalise ads; otherwise ads are non-personalised. This data is handled under Google's privacy policy. Sonik Pro subscribers see no ads.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with providers who process it on our behalf: PostHog (product analytics), OpenAI (automated moderation scoring of posts and comments), Google AdMob (advertising in the free tier), Apple and Google (sign-in), Apple iTunes (30-second previews), Cloudflare (storage of media you upload), our email provider (verification & reset emails), and our host (Render). We may disclose data where required by law.

Retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data in the app (Profile → Delete Account) or by emailing us.

Security

Data is sent over HTTPS and passwords are stored only as salted hashes. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children

Sonik is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes are reflected by the date above.
